This attractive, old and rare map shows Seattle in 1890, back when its suburbs were still mostly fields and forests.
The map appears to focus on the parcels of land that have already been sold, and those which could be worthy investments for rich people looking to invest in the West Coast.
Elliott Bay, Puget Sound, and Lake Washington dominate huge swaths of the map. The map stretches about as far as Kirkland in the northeast, to Seahurst Park in the bottom left corner, taking in Mercer Island in the middle.
Most of the space between Downtown, Union Lake and Green Lake has been developed, but beyond that... it's pretty empty.
A lovely inset map shows the broader setting of Seattle, with many ship routes and train lines shown.
Zoom into the listing images and see if you can spot your hometown or office! Or at least where it might be built in the next 100 years or so...!
This map looks great at all sizes from, but please be aware that the writing is very small on the 16x20 inch map. This map looks amazing when printed at larger sizes. I can create beautiful, large prints of this map up to 80 inches (200cm) tall. Please get in touch if you're looking for larger, customised or different framing options.
The model in the listing images is holding the 16x20 inch (40x50cm) version of this map.
Please note that the 24x27 inch unframed map has small white strips along the edge that can be easily snipped off (or they may help you with framing). All other map sizes, and all framed maps, look just like the listing images.
This would make a wonderful birthday or Christmas gift for someone from Seattle, who lives there today, or someone who has worked or travelled there extensively.
This map is available as a giclée print on acid free archival matte paper, or you can buy it framed. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that suits most aesthetics. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame colour or material. My frames are glazed with super-clear museum-grade acrylic (perspex/acrylite), which is significantly less reflective than glass, safer, and will always arrive in perfect condition.
