Seguir leyendoWassily Kandinsky’s Kleine Welten XI (R, 174) (1922) unfolds like a piece of visual music from his Bauhaus years, part of the celebrated Small Worlds portfolio in which the artist distilled color, line, and rhythm into pure abstraction. Composed of interlocking geometric and organic forms, the work invites the eye to roam across constellations of dots, linear trajectories, and softly floating shapes. Created soon after Kandinsky joined the Bauhaus in Weimar, it captures his mature language—an art built on the expressive power of nonrepresentational form and the dynamic tension between structure and spontaneity.
This listing offers a museum-quality fine art print of the artwork, produced by The Unique Maps Co. on acid-free archival paper or artist’s cotton canvas for long-lasting color and detail. Choose from a range of sizes with optional custom borders, and elevate it further with our in-house framing in gallery-black, warm natural wood, or crisp white. Personalization is available—add a discreet title line, dedication, or date—along with bespoke sizing to suit your wall.
Kandinsky, a pioneer of 20th-century abstraction, sought a universal visual language that could convey inner feeling through points, lines, and planes. At the Bauhaus he refined these ideas, teaching the relationships of form and color while exploring how rhythm and movement could be communicated without figurative subject matter. The Small Worlds series, issued as a portfolio in 1922, was central to that inquiry, gathering works that read as intimate universes—compact yet teeming with energy.
Kleine Welten XI is notable for its delicate balance of order and freedom. Grid-like scaffolds and calibrated vectors seem to map an unseen architecture, while looser, organic marks drift across the surface, suggesting motion, collision, or quiet suspension. The interplay evokes a world in flux—part celestial chart, part musical score—perfectly encapsulating the avant-garde ambition to chart inner realities rather than depict external ones.
The palette adds to its buoyant, “airy” character: a luminous white ground anchors finely modulated blacks and grays, while gentle notes of beige and sunlit yellow warm the composition. Varied line weights—some bold and assertive, others gossamer and precise—create depth and texture, sharpening the contrast between mechanical geometry and lyrical gesture. It’s a striking choice for modern interiors, from minimalist and Scandinavian spaces to mid-century and Bauhaus-inspired rooms, where its restrained color and intricate structure can either harmonize quietly or command attention as a focal point.
This fine art print makes a thoughtful, design-forward gift for lovers of modern art, architecture, and music—ideal for Christmas, birthdays, housewarmings, graduations, Mother’s or Father’s Day, or for anyone drawn to the history and spirit of the Bauhaus.
If you're not sure what size to order, or you're looking for a custom order of some kind – a different size, a different colour, a special frame – then please contact me. I usually respond within a few minutes.
You can see an example of my fine art personalisation service in the fifth image. Zoom in and take a look. My personalised artwork is always very well received. Take a look at more examples of personalisation.
You can also choose to age your art print to make it look older. This is popular amongst my customers who want their artwork to look like an older, antique print. You can see an example of ageing in the sixth product image, or go ahead and check out lots of examples of other aged artwork.
The model in the listing images is holding the 16x20in (40x50cm) version of this art print.
I can print and frame this beautiful piece of art at sizes up to 3 metres (10ft). If you are looking for a size or framing option that isn't available online, please get in touch.
This artwork is available as a giclée print on acid free archival matte paper, or you can buy it framed. My standard frames come in six colours (black, dark brown, dark grey, antique gold, oak and white), and custom framing is available for an additional charge. My frames are glazed with super-clear museum-grade acrylic (perspex/acrylite), which is significantly less reflective than glass, safer, and will always arrive in perfect condition.
This artwork is also available as a float framed canvas, sometimes known as a shadow gap framed canvas or canvas floater. The work is printed on artist's cotton canvas and then stretched over a handmade box frame. We then "float" the canvas inside a wooden frame, which is available in a range of colours (black, dark brown, oak, antique gold and white). This is a wonderful way to present an art print without glazing in front. See some examples of float framed canvas art and explore the differences between my different finishes.
