Created almost 450 years ago, this is the first ever printed map of Somersetshire. It was originally published by Christopher Saxton, the father of British cartography. It is a beautiful, highly detailed and extremely rare old map.
Both Bristol and Bath can be seen on this map in the top right corner, then the Mendips, and of course many other lovely towns and cities that you've probably visited on your holidays over the years.
This map looks great at all sizes: 12x16 inches (31x41cm), 18x24 inches (45.5x61cm) and 24x36 inches (61x91.5cm), but it looks even better when printed large.
I can create beautiful, large prints of this map up to 90 inches (228cm). Please get in touch if you're looking for larger, customised or different framing options
The model in the listing images is holding the 20x16 inch (51x40.5cm) version of this map.
If you’re looking for something slightly different, another option would be this amazing map of Somerset by Joan Blaeu in 1665.
Many of the towns, villages and cities of the region are already visible in this map.
The locations on this map include: Wedmore, Taunton, Bristol (Bristoll), Bath (Baythe), Weston-super-Mare, Taunton, Frome, Glastonbury (Glassenbury), Martock (Martok), Yeovill (Evill), Bridgwater, Cheddar, Somerton, Clevedon, Chard, Longleat, Wells and many more. But of course, many of them are spelt in their Early Modern English forms.
This would make a wonderful birthday, Christmas, work leaving or housewarming gift for someone from Somerset or who has the west country in their heart.
This map is available as a giclée print on acid free archival matte paper, or you can buy it framed. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that suits most aesthetics. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame colour or material. My frames are glazed with super-clear museum-grade acrylic (perspex/acrylite), which is significantly less reflective than glass, safer, and will always arrive in perfect condition.

Almost all of my maps look amazing at large sizes (200cm, 6.5ft+) and I can frame and deliver them to you as well, via special oversized courier. Contact me to discuss your specific needs.
