This is a print of sheet 10 of the Map of London Poverty, created by Charles Booth in 1898-9.
These 12 maps of London were an epic undertaking to map out the various levels of poverty and affluence of everyone in London. These are some of the most detailed historic maps of London ever made.
This map shows the historic Outside Southern District of London, which today is mostly the London boroughs of Wandsworth, Lambeth, and small parts of the boroughs on the north side of the river.
Because of the huge amount of detail on this map, I would recommend buying the 36x20 inch (90x50cm) map at least.
I can create beautiful, large prints of this map up to 70x38 inches (180x95cm) . Please get in touch if you're looking for larger, customised or different framing options.
The model in the listing images is holding the 36x20 inch version of this map.
The fifth listing image shows an example of my map personalisation service.
Please note the unframed 36x20 and 24x13 inch maps have white edges around the map. These edges can help you with framing, or if you don’t need them they are very easy to snip off with scissors. All other maps, including the framed maps, look exactly like the listing images.
Battersea Park, Clapham Common, and Putney are all evident in this historic map, along with a large number of railways (including Clapham Junction Station, if you zoom in!)
The level of detail in these maps is breathtaking, with individual houses coloured to show whether they are "vicious semi-criminal" (black); "very poor" (dark blue); "poor" (light blue); "mixed" (red); "fairly comfortable" (light red); "middle class" (bright red); "upper-middle and upper class" (yellow).
This would make a wonderful birthday, Christmas, work leaving or housewarming gift for someone from London or someone who has a keen interest in the history of London.
This map is available as a giclée print on acid free archival matte paper, or you can buy it framed. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that suits most aesthetics. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame colour or material. My frames are glazed with super-clear museum-grade acrylic (perspex/acrylite), which is significantly less reflective than glass, safer, and will always arrive in perfect condition.

I use a unique process to restore my maps that is massively time consuming and labour intensive. Hunting down the original maps can take months. I use state of the art and eye-wateringly expensive technology to scan and restore the maps. As a result, I guarantee my maps are a cut above the rest - that's why I can offer a no-quibble refund.
Almost all of my maps look amazing at large sizes (200cm, 6.5ft+) and I can frame and deliver them to you as well, via special oversized courier. Contact me to discuss your specific needs.
