Assembled by master mapmaker J.G. Bartholomew and published by Edward Stanford, this "7 in 1 map" is one of the finest maps of the South Pole ever created.
The 7 maps show Antarctica (and the paths taken by all explorers up until that point); oceanic deposits; ice limits and currents; mean temperature; mean rainfall; isobars and winds; and magnetic phenomena.
The southern tips of South Africa, Australia, Africa and New Zealand can also be seen. Parts of Antarctica are labelled, too, such as Victoria Land, South Shetlands, Graham Land and Alexander Land.
This map looks great at all sizes from 12x18 inches (30x40cm), to 24x36 inches inches (60x90cm) and beyond. It looks even better when printed large. I can create beautiful, large prints of this map up to 90 inches (230cm) wide. Please get in touch if you're looking for larger, customised or different framing options.
The model in the listing images is holding the 36x24 inch (90x60cm) version of this map.
This would make a wonderful birthday or Christmas gift for someone from the Antarctic Circle or who has historical interest in geography, cartography and human exploration.
You can order the map itself, or you can order a framed version. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that really makes our maps pop out when on a wall. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame. We use super-clear acrylic (perspex/acrylite) in our frames - it's less reflective than glass and better for transport.
Some of my old maps are now available on canvas. Smaller and larger sizes are available, but you must contact me to order.
Check my canvas maps collection to see which maps are currently available on canvas.
Canvas old maps are an interesting alternative to conventionally framed maps. Depending on your personal taste and room decor, canvas maps can "pop" a bit more than a framed map.
I print on responsibly sourced canvas with very high quality, fade-resistant inks. Then the canvas is stretched over a hand-glued solid wood frame - and yes, the wood is responsibly and renewably sourced.
The finished piece is 1.5 inches (3.8cm) deep and comes ready to hang.
Please note that because of the texture of canvas, some of the finer details on some maps will be harder to read than a map printed on paper.
At 36x24 inches (90x60cm) everything should be legible. But if you want to check before you order, please contact me.
If you are not happy with your unique map for any reason, contact me for a no-quibble refund.
I am very confident you will like your old map. I have been doing this since 1984 and I'm a 5-star Etsy seller with 1000s of sales and reviews.
This is the cheapest place to buy my maps online.
I use a unique process to restore my maps that is massively time consuming and labour intensive. Hunting down the original maps can take months. I use state of the art and eye-wateringly expensive technology to scan and restore the maps. As a result, I guarantee my maps are a cut above the rest - that's why I can offer a no-quibble refund.
Almost all of my maps look amazing at large sizes (200cm, 6.5ft+) and I can frame and deliver them to you as well, via special oversized courier. Contact me to discuss your specific needs.
