This is one of the oldest, full colour complete maps of England and Ireland - with a unique twist: It shows all of the invasions and civil wars of England and Ireland since the conquest of the British Isles by the Normans in 1066.
This map looks great at all sizes: 12x16 inches (31x41cm), 18x24 inches (45.5x61cm) and 24x36 inches (61x91.5cm), but it looks even better when printed large.
I can create beautiful, large prints of this map up to 52x70 inches (130x180cm). Please get in touch if you're looking for larger, customised or different framing options.
The model is holding the 24x18 inch (60x45cm) version of this map.
The fifth listing image shows an example of my map personalisation service.
Please note that at 12x16 inches (30x40cm) the writing is very small. The map is still very attractive, but you will struggle to read the smallest labels
This intriguing and historically fascinating invasion map was put together masterfully by Cornelius Danckerts in 1676, but it's based on John Speed's original map of England and Ireland from 1611.
For example, did you know there was the Battle of Barnet - part of the War of the Roses - in 1471? Or how about the Siege of Oxford in 1644? All of these conflicts and more are visible on this weird and wonderful invasion map of the British Isles.
This old map was hand coloured over 400 years ago and, as you can see, is still in amazing condition for a map of this age.
Many of the towns, villages and cities of England, Wales and Ireland are already clearly visible in this map. I won't list every town, but suffice it to say there's every county capital, many seaside towns, and many more in between.
Ireland was rather oddly shaped back in 1605, but all of the major towns and cities are already visible - Cork, Dublin, Belfast, etc.
Scotland is just about visible at the top of the map - but only just.
And of course, Wales and all of its towns are clearly visible. You might be wondering what Brecknock is... well, it's the archaic form of Brecon!
This would make a wonderful birthday, Christmas, work leaving or housewarming gift for someone who has a key interest on the Civil war or from England, Wales or Ireland.
This map is available as a giclée print on acid free archival matte paper, or you can buy it framed. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that suits most aesthetics. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame colour or material. My frames are glazed with super-clear museum-grade acrylic (perspex/acrylite), which is significantly less reflective than glass, safer, and will always arrive in perfect condition.
Some of my old maps are now available on canvas. Smaller and larger sizes are available, but you must contact me to order.
Check my canvas maps collection to see which maps are currently available on canvas.
Canvas old maps are an interesting alternative to conventionally framed maps. Depending on your personal taste and room decor, canvas maps can "pop" a bit more than a framed map.
I print on responsibly sourced canvas with very high quality, fade-resistant inks. Then the canvas is stretched over a hand-glued solid wood frame - and yes, the wood is responsibly and renewably sourced.
The finished piece is 1.5 inches (3.8cm) deep and comes ready to hang.
Please note that because of the texture of canvas, some of the finer details on some maps will be harder to read than a map printed on paper.
At 36x24 inches (90x60cm) everything should be legible. But if you want to check before you order, please contact me.

I use a unique process to restore my maps that is massively time consuming and labour intensive. Hunting down the original maps can take months. I use state of the art and eye-wateringly expensive technology to scan and restore the maps. As a result, I guarantee my maps are a cut above the rest - that's why I can offer a no-quibble refund.
Almost all of my maps look amazing at large sizes (200cm, 6.5ft+) and I can frame and deliver them to you as well, via special oversized courier. Contact me to discuss your specific needs.
