A magnificent map of Brazil, originally published in 1832, which was a very interesting period for this country. A few years earlier the King of Portugal had fled from Europe to escape Napoleon, which then led to Brazil being incorporated into the united kingdom of Brazil and Portugal.
King João VI eventually left Brazil when it was safe to do so, leaving his son in charge - and then a year later, his own son led the Independence War. He won the war and became Emperor Pedro I of Brazil. This map, from 1832, was when Pedro I's son, Pedro II, was in charge. He would have a long reign until 1889, when he was eventually ousted and the republic of Brazil was formed.
This map looks great at all sizes: 12x16 inches (31x41cm), 18x24 inches (45.5x61cm), and 24x30 inches (61x76cm), but it looks even better when printed large.
I can create beautiful, large prints of this map up to 100 inches (254cm). Please get in touch if you're looking for larger, customised or different framing options.
The model in the listing images is holding the 20x16 inch (51x40.5cm) version of this map.
Please note, the unframed 24x30 inch map has white edges around the map. These edges can help you with framing, or if you don’t need them, they are very easy to snip off with scissors. All other maps, including the framed maps, look exactly like the listing images.
If you’re looking for more options, I have another interesting very large format map of South America by William Faden in 1807.
Some of the locations on this map include: Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador, and many other towns and cities. Towards the top of the map you can see the Amazon River and it emptying out into the Atlantic in Macapa.
The borders of each of Brasilia's provinces is beautifully handcoloured. As well as Brazil, you can also see Paraguay, Bolivia, and Columbia surrounding the country.
This would make a wonderful birthday, Christmas, work leaving or housewarming gift for someone from Brazil or has Brazil in their heart.
This map is available as a giclée print on acid free archival matte paper, or you can buy it framed. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that suits most aesthetics. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame colour or material. My frames are glazed with super-clear museum-grade acrylic (perspex/acrylite), which is significantly less reflective than glass, safer, and will always arrive in perfect condition.
