This is undoubtedly one of the finest views of Mount Vernon, the home of US founding father George Washington.
Originally published in 1932, this chart was actually put together by B. Ashburton Tripp, a landscape gardener. He lived close by, so this may have been a professional assignment - or he might've just visited one day and been inspired to draw a beautiful rendition.
This plan is extremely decorative, with detailed views of the gardens and buildings of Mount Vernon around the edge of the map. George Washington was rather obsessed with the good maintenance and management of his house and lands.
Around the outside of the map is a quote from a letter that Washington sent to the manager of Mount Vernon: "I shall begrudge no reasonable expense that will contribute to the improvement & neatness of my Farms, for nothing pleases me better than to see them in good order, and every thing trim, handsome, & thriving."
This map looks great at all sizes: 12x16 inches (31x41cm), 18x24 inches (45.5x61cm) and 24x36 inches (61x91.5cm), but it looks even better when printed large.
I can create beautiful, large prints of this map up to 90 inches (230cm) tall. Please get in touch if you're looking for larger, customised or different framing options.
The model in the listing images is holding the 24x18 inch (61x45.5cm) version of this map.
This would make a wonderful birthday, Christmas, work leaving or housewarming gift for someone who has visited Mount Vernon or has a keen interest in the home and legacy of President George Washington.
This map is available as a giclée print on acid free archival matte paper, or you can buy it framed. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that suits most aesthetics. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame colour or material. My frames are glazed with super-clear museum-grade acrylic (perspex/acrylite), which is significantly less reflective than glass, safer, and will always arrive in perfect condition.
