Taylor was commissioned to create a series of maps of the United Kingdom and Ireland to encourage people to drive around the country in their new-fangled motor carriages (aka cars) - which, of course, would consume Esso oil!
Most of the major towns and cities on the way from London to Bath are visible on this map - and in many cases, accompanied by a beautiful little illustration of the town's high street or other notable landmark.
The route mostly covers the counties of Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and Somerset, with a few guest appearances by towns in neighbouring counties.
Dotted around the map are phrases from famous books or poems. And in the top right corner is a lovely little illustration showing Londoners how to get the right road out of London - The Great West Road (today the A4 out of west London), and not the Bypass towards Brentford.
Take a look at the detailed images and try to spot your town! Feel free to message me if you want to confirm if a certain town or village is on this map.
This map looks great at all sizes from 12x18 inches (30x45cm), to 16x20 inches (40x50cm) and 24x36 inches (60x90cm). But it looks even better when printed large. I can create beautiful, large prints of this map up to 80 inches (200cm) wide. Please get in touch if you're looking for larger, customised or different framing options.
This would make a wonderful birthday or Christmas gift for someone from the South West or who is a bit of a petrolhead or car history buff.
You can order the map itself, or you can order a framed version. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that really makes our maps pop out when on a wall. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame. We use super-clear acrylic (perspex/acrylite) in our frames - it's less reflective than glass and better for transport.
Some of my old maps are now available on canvas. Smaller and larger sizes are available, but you must contact me to order.
Check my canvas maps collection to see which maps are currently available on canvas.
Canvas old maps are an interesting alternative to conventionally framed maps. Depending on your personal taste and room decor, canvas maps can "pop" a bit more than a framed map.
I print on responsibly sourced canvas with very high quality, fade-resistant inks. Then the canvas is stretched over a hand-glued solid wood frame - and yes, the wood is responsibly and renewably sourced.
The finished piece is 1.5 inches (3.8cm) deep and comes ready to hang.
Please note that because of the texture of canvas, some of the finer details on some maps will be harder to read than a map printed on paper.
At 36x24 inches (90x60cm) everything should be legible. But if you want to check before you order, please contact me.
If you are not happy with your unique map for any reason, contact me for a no-quibble refund.
I am very confident you will like your old map. I have been doing this since 1984 and I'm a 5-star Etsy seller with 1000s of sales and reviews.

I use a unique process to restore my maps that is massively time consuming and labour intensive. Hunting down the original maps can take months. I use state of the art and eye-wateringly expensive technology to scan and restore the maps. As a result, I guarantee my maps are a cut above the rest - that's why I can offer a no-quibble refund.
Almost all of my maps look amazing at large sizes (200cm, 6.5ft+) and I can frame and deliver them to you as well, via special oversized courier. Contact me to discuss your specific needs.
