The main purpose of this map is to show the title owners of various parcels of land, though there are plenty of landmarks and freehand annotations that you may find interesting. Zoom into the listing images and see what you can find!
There is a lovely, highly detailed engraving of Austin Dam in the top left corner - "For Water, Light & Power" - but the dam would sadly fail a few years later, killing many people and leaving Austin without power for months.
The Texas Capitol building can be clearly seen, as can the Main Building of of Texas University - i.e. University of Texas Austin, which had been founded a few years earlier in 1883.
All in all, a fantastically interesting and well preserved map that's a truly historic artefact.
This map looks great at all sizes. But it looks even better when printed large. I can create beautiful, large prints of this map up to 135 inches (340cm) tall. Please get in touch if you're looking for larger, customised or different framing options.
Please note that the smaller (12, 16, 18, and 24 inch) unframed maps have white edges that can be easily snipped off (or they may help you with framing). The larger sizes, and all the framed maps, are all printed and pre-cut perfectly to size.
The model in the listing images is holding the 20x16 inch (50x40cm) version of this map.
This would make a wonderful birthday or Christmas gift for someone from Austin, who loves theatre, or perhaps someone who has spent time travelling or working there.
You can order the map itself, or you can order a framed version. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that really makes the map pop out when on a wall. Please get in touch if you'd like a different frame. I use super-clear museum-grade acrylic (perspex/acrylite) in my frames - it's less reflective than glass and better for transport.
